"Warriors are not the ones who always win, but the ones that always fight.” Meet our warrior. Adam Christopher Wells Jr. is the son of Adam and Ashley Wells, born on June 23, 2011 in Glens Falls, NY. His sister Evelynn was born a couple years later on January 9, 2016. Adam is an incredible big brother. To Evelynn he is her hero and she says it daily. She is always by his side to help him with anything he needs. Adam has 6 pets, his two cats Spooky and Oreo and his sidekick, dog Max. His three turtles, Thanos, Bowser, and Peaches.
Adam loves to spend time outdoors looking for snakes, turtles, salamanders and frogs. Since he was able to walk he started fishing. Catch after catch the sport quickly became his favorite thing to do. He also loves collecting Pokemon and super hero figurines. With over one thousand characters in his collection, he can name every one of them and tell you their super power.
Adam was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at the age of 6. With the appearance of his calves and the many difficulties he had doing simple tasks such as getting up off the floor, using playground equipment and walking the diagnosis was clear. He was able to walk for another four years after his diagnosis. In November of 2021 Adam walked for the last time. Being in a wheelchair he still found a way to do the things he loved. Fishing and hiking in the woods became easier when he got his track chair in 2021 thanks to our amazing community's unwavering support.
Adams' family needs help getting a van to transport him. At the moment he is being carried to and from the car/house. This is a major issue. Not only can it cause harm to him but it is also very strenuous on his parents. If he is able to use his power chair at home it will make everyday tasks easier on him and his parents. Adams upper body strength is decreasing which makes it harder for him to be moved with just getting picked up. His parents have both missed work because their sitters can't help transport him back and forth. Getting a Van for Adam will make his everyday needs easier to meet.
Adam has overcome many obstacles in his 12 years and is continuing to shock all of us everyday. He still faces many challenges but never stops smiling. He is our warrior with a gentle soul.
