Every October, JAR of Hope hosts its annual gala to commemorate the organization’s achievements, recognize supporters who help empower the cause, and keep the awareness going for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and those whose lives are touched by it. Essentially, it’s a celebration to reward the year’s hard work and all who contribute, but ultimately it’s just another initiative to bring us one step closer to finding a cure for the thousands of diagnosed children worldwide.
This year, JAR of Hope stepped up the extravagance and transformed the occasion into a glamorous event fit for Hollywood’s A-List crowd. However, there wasn’t a red carpet in sight as it was replaced with an even more iconic green carpet for the star-filled night with a greater purpose.
If asked “which gala moment was most memorable?” it would be a struggle to choose just one. But what everyone will definitely talk about is the first impression of pulling up to bright lights that led to the entrance of the Event Center, as well as being met by valet service that added to the celebrity-treatment experience.
After walking the green carpet and being interviewed by radio station 94.3 The Point, the guests made their way inside. There they found movie premier posters inspired by JAR of Hope’s greatest accomplishments, as well as some of the world’s biggest superstars: Joan Rivers, Prince, and Britney Spears—lookalikes, of course. As the night went on, everyone enjoyed a cocktail hour where “The Jamesy” was the drink of choice, luxury raffle baskets with items that ranged from designer handbags to a vacation home voucher, and bidding at a silent auction.
When the entertainment stopped and it was time to focus on the true reason for coming together, Jim and Karen Raffone took the stage to thank all who make JAR of Hope possible, specifically calling forward the 2018 honorees and students of the year who help the mission thrive.
We like to say “a ship is only as strong as its crew.” JAR of Hope being the ship; the supporters, volunteers, and brand ambassadors being the dedicated crew who keep our message loud. There can’t be one without the other, but to our organization, you are the most important part. Thank you to those who attended the gala, as well as those who stand by us every day in our efforts to create change for the DMD community.
