Every year, I travel to Lourdes, France to do service work.  Lourdes is the site of a Marian apparition that occurred 160 years ago and ever since has been considered a place of miracles and healing.  I am a member of the Hospitalite Notre Dame de Lourdes, a Dame in the Order of Malta and a Group Leader and board member of Our Lady’s Pilgrimage, a group that has been doing service work in Lourdes for the 25 years.  Each year when I arrive in Lourdes, I meditate on what my purpose or role is going to be.  Well, this year I met James Raffone.

This past May, Jim and his son Jamesy were part of the Order of Malta’s annual pilgrimage to Lourdes.  I was blessed to be assigned to the children this year, and became acquainted with Jim and Jamesy.  This is when I first learned about Duchenne MD.

Everyone in our group (about 400 people!) was moved by this amazing little boy and his father, whose love for and commitment to his son was inspirational.  Jim’s passion for finding a cure is literally contagious, and before I knew it, I was considering joining JAR of Hope in the NYC Marathon! Although I had just finished the Happy Healthy Stronger Fitness Makeover Challenge, anyone who knows me will tell you that a Marathon is probably the last thing you’d find me doing, so the fact I was considering it was a tiny miracle! While mulling this over, I remembered something I saw online that said, “Take care of your body. Enjoy your life. Use your body to help others enjoy their lives”.  It hit me how blessed I am to have good health and a body that works!  Unfortunately, not everybody can say that, so I decided to take on this challenge, because how could I NOT??  I’ve been spreading the word and now my fellow HHS contestant, Emily Kornbluth Aronson has decided to join me on the JAR Team!

When I think of all the beautiful children born with this aggressive, debilitating fatal disease, and their families who would do ANYTHING to find a cure, my answer is YES!  I will do whatever I can to raise awareness and raise funds detrimental to conquering Duchenne MD.

Please join me and JAR of Hope  Team Jamesy in finding much needed answers. Every day counts and every single donation no matter the amount MAKES A DIFFERENCE.  Thank you so much for your love and support!

I was moved by your story and how you met James. He is an amazing Dad who will stop to nothing until his son Jamesy is cured from this horrible disease.
I wish you lots of Luck in raising the money and joining the NYC marathon.
