My name is Corey Wescoe. In early 2018, a friend of mine asked me if I was familiar with Jar of Hope and if I thought I could help them by running with them in the New York Marathon. Admittedly I had not heard of Jar of Hope, let alone had I ever really heard of Duchenne Muscular Distrophy. I took some time that evening to do some research, visit their website and watch the YouTube videos they’d made to educate the public. What I saw and what I learned broke my heart. My wife and I are fortunate to have 2 healthy children who are the light of our life every day of every year. I don’t know what we’d do if our doctor were to ever sit us down to tell us “Go home and love your child, there’s nothing we can do.” That’s a horrifying prescription… and it’s also unacceptable.
It made me want to do something. It made me want to help. After meeting Jim Raffone and listening to him explain his mission, and understanding his passion and his determination, it became very easy to be inspired for this cause. What could I do though? I’m not a doctor. I’m not a chemist. I work in real estate…
I can run though… and I can’t wait to run in the New York Marathon this fall with Jar of Hope as a part of Team Jamesy. My goal is to raise as much as I possibly can between now and the first weekend of November. The goal is to beat this disease. Nobody should be told to go home and love their child because there simply are no answers. Please support my campaign and help me raise money for Jar of Hope.
